The first post of this blog has to be about the biggest and more important girlband of all times: The Spice Girls.
They need no introduction as they are well-known by people of all ages but I am spending some words to describe their incredibly succesfull career.
What You Need To Know
The Spice Girls were brought together thanks to an advert on a British newspaper called "The Stage" that was looking for girls to create an all female band.
Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell were selected and put together in a band called "Touch".
The girls took the industry by storm and finally signed a contract with Virgin Records.
They decided to change their name to "Spice" and then to "Spice Girls" and started co-writing their first album "Spice"
Their first single Wannabe was released in 1996 and hit number-one in more than 30 countries and helped establish the group as a global phenomenon and their debut album, Spice, sold more than 28 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album by a female group in music history. With three albums and on Greatest Hits they have sold over 80 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling female group of all time and one of the best-selling pop groups of all time.
Their breakthrough in the american music industry made them the most successful British band since the Beatles.
The english magazine "Top Of The Pops" created their unforgettable nicknames: Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, Scary Spice, Posh Spice and Sporty Spice.

The iconic symbolism of the Spice Girls in the 1990s is also attributed to their merchandising and willingness to be a part of a media-driven world. They advertised for many brands, and even released a movie "Spice World". Because of their regular appearances in ads and the media, the band solidified themselves as a phenomenon – an icon of the decade and for British music.
They toured the world in 1998 with the Spice World Tour selling out shows all around the world.
The Spice Girls are the only girlband in history to have performed at the Wembley Stadium in London.
They went from 5 to 4 when Geri Halliwell left the group in May '98 and split up in 2001 after the release of their third album "Forever". The girls embarked on solo careers and reunited for a sold-out world tour in 2007 and performed at the Olympics Closing Ceremony in 2012.
The Spice Girls are considered ICONS of PopMusic and still have legions of fans around the world.

I loved them, but I think their music has grown old very fast... When I listen to their stuff I can't stand it very much, even when I was super fan when they started.
